&lt;h2&gt;Release Notes&lt;/h2&gt;Updated 4/25/2013&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Welcome to the final release of Microsoft Unity Application Block 3 (Unity)!&lt;br /&gt;This document contains a brief summary of Unity. Additional information and bug fixes delivered after release are available on the &lt;a href="http://unity.codeplex.com/"&gt;Unity Community site&lt;/a&gt; and on the &lt;a href="http://msdn.com/unity"&gt;Unity MSDN site&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;Where to get it?&lt;/h2&gt;Via NuGet – use the NuGet Package Manager in Visual Studio and search online for the “unity” packages. &lt;br /&gt;
&lt;h2&gt;What’s New in this Release?&lt;/h2&gt;This major release of Unity contains compelling new features and updates that will make developers more productive. These include:
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Unity now supports registration by convention through the new RegisterTypes method.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Unity now supports resolving objects of type Lazy&amp;lt;T&amp;gt;.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Unity now includes support for ASP.NET MVC and ASP.NET Web API.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Unity now supports NetCore (Windows Store apps).
&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Note:  Internally, the WinRT namespaces that support Unity in Windows Store apps (present in Unity 3.0 Preview) have been renamed to NetCore.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The Unity assembly is now Security Transparent.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The bug that caused a first chance exception when registering a singleton is fixed.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The bug that resulted in static properties not being filtered out when doing property injection is fixed.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;

Modern business applications consist of custom business objects and components that perform specific or generic tasks within the application, in addition to components that individually address cross cutting concerns such as logging, authentication, authorization, caching, and exception handling. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The key to successfully building such applications is to achieve a decoupled or very loosely coupled design. Loosely coupled applications are more flexible and easier to maintain. They are also easier to test during development. You can mock up shims &amp;#40;lightweight mock implementations&amp;#41; of objects that have strong concrete dependencies&amp;#59; such as database connections, network connections, ERP connections, and rich user interface components. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dependency injection is a prime technique for building loosely coupled applications. It provides ways to handle the dependencies between objects. For example, an object that processes customer information may depend on other objects that access the data store, validate the information, and check that the user is authorized to perform updates. Dependency injection techniques can ensure that the customer class correctly instantiates and populates all of these objects, especially where the dependencies may be abstract.&lt;br /&gt;

It provides ways to handle the dependencies between objects. For example, an object that processes customer information may depend on other objects that access the data store, validate the information, and check that the user is authorized to perform updates. Dependency injection techniques can ensure that the customer class correctly instantiates and populates all of these objects, especially where the dependencies may be abstract.&lt;br /&gt;

For example, an object that processes customer information may depend on other objects that access the data store, validate the information, and check that the user is authorized to perform updates. Dependency injection techniques can ensure that the customer class correctly instantiates and populates all of these objects, especially where the dependencies may be abstract.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;The public-facing interfaces for consuming Unity remain intact and most of the behavior is preserved but there are several changes to the internal implementation which might impact you if you have extended Unity, specifically the dynamic build plans. &lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The Microsoft.Practices.Unity.UnityServiceLocator class cannot be used under the WinRT profile because the CommonServiceLocator is not yet available under the WinRT profile.&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Only the core Unity libraries will work with the WinRT profile.  The Unity.Configuration, Unity.Interception, and Unity.Interception.Configuration assemblies will not work under the WinRT profile.&lt;/li&gt;
